Myohoji Temple – Los Angeles Chapter Report

Myohoji Temple celebrated the seventeenth Hokkeko Annual Meeting on November eighth at our beautiful temple in West Hollywood, California. The main hall was filled with believers from not just the local Los Angeles area, but also San Diego, Las Vegas, Utah, Colorado, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. Five people received Gojukai at morning Gongyo.

The meeting opened with the children’s group singing “Take me out to the temple,” which brought big smiles to the faces of all attendees. A beautiful DVD presentation of Myohoji activities and tozans of 2009 followed. A new believer shared his experience and the trio “The Pink Ladies” sang and gave their August tozan experience. The koto outlined our goals toward 2015 as given by High Priest Nichinyo Shonin. Chief Priest Rev. Takano encouraged everyone in the Myohoji Hokkeko to chant Daimoku and take action in the quest to fulfill the High Priest’s guidance to increase the Hokkeko membership by 50 percent by 2015.

The Myohoji Band and Singers concluded the meeting with two songs they had done for the High Priest at the October tozan, an original song by a band member, “Keep on Chanting” and the well known “Here Comes the Sun.”

A record number of Myohoji Hokkeko believers have attended the 2009 Tozans in commemoration ofthe 750th anniversary of the submission of the Rissho ankoku ron, with more ot go in December. Many attendees were making their first tozan to the Head Temple, and lots of familiey groups have attended, in some cases with three generations participating.
